MBA Scholarships

MBA Student Scholarship

What is the scholarship?

UQ Business School is offering up to fourteen (14) 25% tuition-fee waiver scholarships to outstanding students commencing the MBA program (and MBA articulation pathway) each year. Scholarship applications are only open to new students each semester.
The scholarship will entitle the successful applicant to receive a 25% discount on their course tuition fees for a maximum period of 24 months. If the scholarship recipient exceeds the 24 month timeframe they become solely responsible for the full tuition cost of any and all remaining courses after the date specified in the scholarship offer.

For scholarship holders who do not continue to meet all of the requirements of the program, the scholarship will be withdrawn and the student will not be eligible to re-apply for any MBA scholarship.

From this pool of 14 scholarships, UQ Business School will specifically award up to:

  • Two (2) of the 25% tuition-fee waiver scholarships on offer to outstanding indigenous MBA students
  • Two (2) of the 25% tuition-fee waiver scholarships on offer to outstanding international MBA students studying full-time
  • Four (4) of the 25% tuition-fee waiver scholarships on offer to outstanding MBA students who are women
  • Six (6) of the 25% tuition-fee waiver scholarships on offer to outstanding MBA students studying either full-time or part-time

 

How to apply?

Meet the entry requirement to receive an unconditional offer for the MBA program (or GCBA/GDipBA articulation pathway to the MBA); and
Provide a personal statement in video format*, of no more than five minutes in length, answering the following three questions tell the Scholarship Panel,
About your motivations for choosing to study an MBA degree and your career aspirations
About a time you overcame a professional or personal obstacle
What have you done to make your work environment or your community a better place
Provide your CV and two written work related references. These documents can be the same ones you use for your program application.


Submitting an application

Scholarship application closing dates:

  • Semester one – International student, 31 October of the previous year
  • Semester one – Domestic students, 30 November of the previous year
  • Semester two – 31 May of the year of commencement.

Terms and conditions

Applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome of the scholarship selection process within two months of the closing date. No late applications will be considered. Not every scholarship will be awarded annual.

The Scholarship Panel considers the applicants academic merit, managerial experience, community involvement, and personal statement responses in their deliberations. Scholarships are limited and awarded on a competitive basis.

Scholarship deferrals to future semesters are not permitted. Scholarships will not be extended beyond the 24 month timeframe.

All scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the MBA Director whose decision is final.

2018 MBA Wandering Warriors Scholarship

UQ Business School is offering up to two (2) 100% tuition-fee waiver scholarships to outstanding domestic students who are members of Wandering Warriors Inc. commencing in either the Accelerated 12 month full-time MBA program, the Streamlined 24 month MBA program or the Flexible part-time MBA program in 2018 only. This scholarship is only open to new students who are members of Wandering Warriors Inc.

The scholarships purpose is to support the volunteer members of Wandering Warriors by providing tuition support to outstanding members—who meet all the MBA entry (or MBA articulation pathway) requirements—who are making the transition from the Australian Defence Force into civilian life.

What is the scholarship?

The scholarship will entitle the successful applicants to receive a 100% discount on their course tuition fees for a maximum period of three year (or six semesters) from their commencement semester. If the scholarship recipient exceeds the three year timeframe they become solely responsible for the full tuition cost of any and all remaining courses after the date specified within their scholarship offer.
The scholarship will be renewed at the end of each semester of the program if the holder:

  1. Obtains satisfactory grades; and
  2. Makes a satisfactory rate of progress towards completing the MBA program; and
  3. Fulfils the obligations* of the MBA program.

The MBA Director alone will determine the meaning of the word “satisfactory” for the purpose of (a) and (b) above.

*Obligations of the scholarship holder are to:

  1. Commence study in the applicable semester the scholarship is awarded including the MBA orientation event; and
  2. Complete all 12 courses within the MBA program course list (no substitutions permitted); and
  3. diligently and to the best of their ability apply themselves to the successful completion of the MBA program; and
  4. Conform to The University of Queensland rules, regulations, policies, and procedures (including disciplinary provisions); and
  5. Not defer or otherwise interrupt studies for any period of time; and
  6. Notify the MBA Director, with a submission to the Coordinator – MBA Student Liaison Team in writing if they are absent for any reason (other than officially timetabled study breaks) for a period of 7 days or more from the place of study, except with prior approval from the MBA Director.

Scholarship holders who do not continue to meet all of the requirements in (a), (b) and (c) as stated above will forfeit the scholarship. This will result in the scholarship being withdrawn, and the student will not be eligible to re-apply for the scholarship.

The University of Queensland may require the scholarship holder to repay the tuition-fee waiver amount if the student fails to:

  • Meet all of the requirements in (a), (b) and (c), including obligations 1 – 6, as stated above; or
  • Successfully pass a course with a grade of 4 or higher.


How to apply?

Applicants must meet each of the following conditions in order to apply for the scholarship:

  1. Have already submitted an application for entry into the MBA program (or MBA articulation pathway) and be eligible to receive an ‘unconditional’ offer for admission^. That is, you must have met the official entry criteria for acceptance into the MBA program (including GMAT if required, English language proficiency if required, and work and managerial experience); and
  2. Be a member of the Wandering Warriors Inc. organisation; and
  3. NOT have been awarded any other MBA scholarship as defined by UQ Business School.

^Applications for admission to the MBA program should be submitted separately to your scholarship application. Details to apply for admission into the MBA program are located on the Courses and Programs website.

Honours Scholarships

Frank Finn Scholarships

The Frank Finn Scholarship Fund was established in 2008 from funds donated to an endowment fund established in acknowledgement of Professor Frank Finn's lifetime of service to the University and the field of finance. Professor Finn held several positions within the University including: Dean of the Faculty Commerce and Economics; Head of the School of Commerce and; the Director of Studies, the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law.

Up to three scholarships will be available for students who are enrolled full-time in an eligible program:

The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need. The Scholarships are available for the normal minimum duration of the program, and shall be awarded to:

  1. Domestic students as a stipend, the value of which will be determined annually by the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law (up to two scholarships are available); and
  2. International students as a full-fee waiver for the full cost of tuition fees only (one scholarship is available).

The School may decide to interview short-listed applicants.

The Matthew McLennan and Richard Howes Outstanding Honours Collaboration Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarships is to encourage collaboration and development of team work attributes between top students from the Honours programs of the School of Business and/or the School of Economics at The University of Queensland.

A proposal for a collaborative research article, the topic of which is chosen by the Director of The Institute of Business and Economics is required.

In 2017, the chosen topic is: “What are the commercial effects of terrorism?”

The deadline for applying for the Matthew McLennan & Richard Howes Outstanding Honours Collaboration Scholarship is 4 August 2017 at 5pm.

Value: $5,625 for each student recipient.

UQ Business School Honours Tuition Fee Reduction Scholarship

The UQ Business School Honours Tuition Fee Reduction Scholarship aims to attract high achieving students to the Bachelor of Business Management (Honours), Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), and Bachelor of International Hotel and Tourism Management (Honours) programs.

Up to three Tuition Fee Reduction Scholarships will be offered for each of the Honours programs offered by UQ Business School. A Tuition Fee Reduction Scholarship means that up to $10,000 of the tuition fees for the Honours program will be paid by the UQ Business School on behalf of the recipient.

To be eligible to apply for the UQ Business School Tuition Fee Reduction Scholarship you must:

  • Have applied to enrol full-time in the relevant Honours program for commencement in the appropriate semester;
  • Have a record of high achievement in previous studies;
  • Provide one personal and one academic reference;
  • Provide a summary of the proposed honours thesis; and
  • Provide a personal statement.
  • The Scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic progress and continued full-time enrolment in the program.  A recipient failing to maintain satisfactory academic progress must show cause why the scholarship should not be cancelled.

The Scholarship award is provisional for a successful international applicant until all visa arrangements have been confirmed to a standard satisfactory to the Head of School.

Each of the following will be taken into consideration in the selection of successful applicants:

  • Academic history;
  • Appropriate references;
  • Alignment of the research to the School research strengths; and
  • Personal statement.

Summer research scholarship program

The UQ Summer Research Scholarship Program offers scholarships to students who are engaged in research projects over the summer vacation period. Summer research scholars will receive a weekly stipend of $360 for the duration of the research project (between 6-10 weeks).

Applications

The experience provides students with the opportunity to work with a researcher in a formal research environment so that they may experience the research process and discover what research is being undertaken in their field of interest at UQ.

Participation is open to undergraduate (including honours) and masters by coursework students who are currently enrolled at UQ.

Applications for UQ Business School projects are only open to current enrolled UQ students.

Winter Research Scholarship Program

Develop your analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills through research.

UQ Business School offers current UQ students the opportunity to participate in the 2017 UQ Winter Research Scholarship Program. This experience provides students with the opportunity to work with a researcher in a formal research environment so that they may experience the research process and discover what research is being undertaken in their field of interest at the School.

Participation is open to undergraduate students, including honours, who have completed at least one year of study at the time of application and Masters by coursework students.

Winter Research scholars will receive a Winter Research Grant valued at $1000. Grants will be awarded based on academic merit, motivation for participating in the program, and the enrolling units nomination. To be eligible for the grant scholars will need to meet the following conditions:

  • Participate in the program between 26 June – 21 July
  • Participate in the program for 4 or more weeks
  • Work a minimum of 20 hours per week
