The Business Sustainability Initiative at the University of Queensland in partnership with the Centre for Circular Economy at the University of Exeter would like to invite you to a workshop on applying circular economy principles to water usage in Australia. The workshop will showcase best practice approaches and the latest technologies for improving water use efficiency and productivity. There will also be a case study from Lion on their approach to reducing water use in beer production by recycling their water.

Water availability, security, cost and responsible management are becoming critical issues for public and private organisations as Australia heads towards another period of drought.  As water becomes a strategic resource, “Circular Economy” principles that maximise water efficiency while minimising waste will deliver organisations a financial, social and environmental competitive advantage.

Presentations include:

  • Professor Peter Hopkinson, Director of Centre for Circular Economy, University of Exeter, UK – Circular Economy and water; a UK perspective
  • Mr. Tri Tran, Utilities & Process Services Leader, Lion – Practitioner perspective of water management at Lion
  • Dr. Shihu Hu and Professor Steven Kenway, UQ Advanced Water Management Centre (AWMC) – New research in water management
  • Professor Sara Dolnicar, UQ Business School – Psychological acceptance recycled water usage

The workshop will provide a forum where industry and research leaders exchange experiences, best practices, and ideas related to current and emerging issues associated with water management. The morning session will provide interactive presentations and discussion with the afternoon including a design-thinking workshop to gain a deeper understanding of the water issues experienced by southeast Queensland companies in the area of water usage, wastewater management and the potential for circular solutions.
