Using electronic health records more effectively

Electronic health records are being adopted by healthcare authorities around the world and offer major potential to improve patient care. But how can organisations use them to the best effect?

A study carried out on behalf of two Canadian organisations - Vancouver Coastal Health  and The British Columbia Provincial Health Services Authority – aimed to discover the answer.

The study, which was led by Professor Andrew Burton-Jones, an information systems specialist at UQ Business School, and Olga Volkoff from Simon Fraser University, revealed ways for the organisations to improve their systems and practices. The researchers also developed a general model to help other healthcare authorities make more effective use of electronic health records.
