Paul has a BEc from the Australian National University, an MBA from the University of Queensland and a PhD in Management from the University of Queensland.

Before joining the University of Queensland, Paul worked in a number of Australian Government trade policy and international business promotion agencies over some twenty-five years. He worked in various capacities, including as a Trade Commissioner, with the Australian Government in offices in North and South America, the Middle East and South East Asia. In addition, short term trade related assignments took him to many other parts of the world. In Australia, Paul has also been responsible for a number of national industry specific export promotion programs.

Paul completed his PhD in 2001 specialising in international business. His research interests focus on the internationalization process of the firm, national culture and globalisation. He received the UQ Business School Excellence in Research Award for 2010.

    Research interests

    Economic globalisation
The effects of the globalisation process on firms in middle-size open economies such as Australia.
    Internationalization of the firm
Research into the internationalization process of the firm and specifically the international market selection processes of firms, from both a descriptive and normative perspective. Within this area I have a special interest in the psychic distance phenomenon and its applicability to Australian firms and the effects of culture on business operations.
