UQ Business School recently played host to world renowned botanist and ecologist David Bellamy as part of the School’s involvement in UNESCO’s Noosa Biosphere reserve.
Head of School Professor Iain Watson said the UNESCO Biosphere Reserves were areas chosen as models of sustainable development.
He said, “UQ Business School’s expertise in corporate sustainability makes it the ideal university partner for the Noosa Biosphere project.”
“Biosphere reserves have been identified all over the world and the first Australian biospheres were listed in 1977.
“Professor Bellamy is famous in Australia for his legendary protest over the Tasmanian Franklin River Dam and his long career as a naturalist and environmental activist.”
“MBA students visit the Noosa Biosphere as part of their final capstone strategy course.”
Professor David Bellamy is a botanist, ecologist, author, broadcaster and consultant. He is the Former Chair of the British Airways Tourism for Tomorrow Awards, and Co-founder of the Ford European Conservation Awards.
He is the author of more than 80 scientific papers and 44 books and is the writer and presenter of some 400 television progams on botany, ecology, and the environment. He has also received numerous awards and honours, including the Order of the British Empire, the Dutch Order of the Golden Ark, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award for Underwater Research, the Richard Dimbleby Award, the United Nations Environment Program UNEP Global 500 Award, the British Association of Communicators in Business – Environmental Communicator of the Year Award, the Guild of Travel Writers Award, and the Busk Medal of the Royal Geographic Society.
