UQ Business School's $100,000 business plan competition goes national

21 Apr 2009
Enterprize, University of Queensland Business School's famous $100,000 business plan competition is now open to entrepreneurs and start-ups across Australia. Now in its ninth year, the competition has featured medical and scientific break-throughs, innovative business models to commercialise open-source software solutions, and ways to address contemporary challenges such as alternative fuels and new water treatment processes. Dean of UQ Business School Tim Brailsford said although the competition had initially been focused on Queensland, the amount of interest from other states in recent years had resulted in changes to the rules to make it easier for interstate competitors to participate. "In the early days of the competition we sought to bring Queensland-born ideas to the attention of investors but Enterprize has dramatically outgrown that mission," he said. "We look forward to receiving applications from all over Australia." Professor Brailsford said entering the competition was as simple as submitting a concept plan by Friday 17 July 2009. "Finalists will be announced in the week commencing Monday 10 August and those teams will each prepare a detailed business plan and pitch it to the judging panel," he said. "We provide free pitch coaching to finalists to prepare them for the ultimate test - pitching to an audience made up of most of Queensland's investment and venture capital industries on Friday 16 October."
