University of Queensland Business School’s (UQBS) research has been ranked higher than any other university in the state in the Excellence in Research for Australia survey released yesterday.
The school’s research was deemed in all its categories to be ranked as above or well above world standard.
UQBS’ banking, finance and investment group gained the top score of 5 (well above world standard) and share this highest rating nationally only with ANU and the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
Its business and management group also got the top score of 5, shared nationally with the University of Melbourne and UNSW.
This rating was a boon to the management program, which in 2010 was — for the fifth time — the only Australian university listed as a top participating institution at the Academy of Management meetings in the US. UQ shares the list with some of the world’s leading business schools including Harvard and Wharton.
It also comes after the recent announcement that UQ Business School’s MBA was ranked by The Economist as being in the top 1% of business schools globally.
UQBS Research Director Professor Victor Callan said the school was rated across four categories in the ERA and the results were gratifying.
“These ERA ratings confirm the position of the UQ Business School as one of the leading research-intensive business schools in Australia, particularly in finance, accounting, business and management, and marketing,” Professor Callan said.
“This result reflects the impact of the school’s strategy in completing both pure research in addition to industry research with numerous Queensland and Australian organisations.”
The ERA report is a comprehensive national assessment of research in all Australian universities.
In ERA’s broader categories, UQ is above world standard in 20 fields of research, more than any other Australian university.
