Students catch the Business Buzz

19 Jun 2008
More than 200 students and teachers attended UQ Business School's 2008 Buzz with Business Conference held at The University of Queensland's Ipswich Campus recently. The students 'attended university' for the day, getting an introduction to the world of business with presenters sharing insights into contemporary business issues including entrepreneurship, legal issues, electronic communication, and accounting. Presenters on the day were Dr Nick James of the TC Beirne School of Law; Chris Hindle, Vice-President Sales & Operations Foot Locker Asia Pacific; Dr Paul O'Brien of UQ Business School along with Chris Hurling from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) and Leanna Tucker from CPA Australia. Ms Ida Seeto, a teacher from Redbank Plains State High School, said the conference was a professional and engaging event. She said, "Buzz with Business provides a great insight for the students into the discipline of business and, more importantly, challenges students to consider the world of opportunities that it presents." Mr Glenn Sellick from Woodcrest State College echoed Ms Seeto's view and noted that the speakers were all relevant as well as entertaining for the students. "All my students thought the day was useful, and many are now considering studying business in the future." "Woodcrest College is already looking forward to next year's conference," Sellick said.
