The UQ BEL Faculty Career Services and Employability Team has received high praise by Group of Eight (Go8) Australia for facilitating hundreds of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placements, co-curricular internships, work experience opportunities, alumni mentorships and project work for business, economics, and law students.
Last year, 50 final year students participated in the Business Industry Placement course, where they undertook an industry work placement of 100 hours throughout a semester to gain greater insight into business organisations and management.
Students were placed in organisations which included Deloitte, PwC, Ernst & Young, and Cancer Council Queensland.
SET also works closely with UQ Business School students to connect them with non-profit and community organisations through the Community Engagement Program (CEP), which provides students with the opportunity to work on real life projects within the community sector and directly benefit not-for-profit and charity organisations.
Tourism students were placed in hotels, not-for-profit organisations, event companies, and government in roles including shadowing senior management, all service operations of a hotel, and government policy and technology as part of the Professional Experience and Professional Development program.
The Professional Experience and Professional Development program has been developed into a compulsory course for all tourism students in 2016.
UQ Business School Dean, Professor Andrew Griffiths, said the Student Employability Team play an integral role in setting business students up for success in their future careers.
“UQ Business School is committed to bridging the gap between study and workplace, giving students the opportunity to grow their networks, gain employability skills, and connect with potential industry employers.
“SET provides an extremely beneficial service to our students and it’s a great achievement for their work to be acknowledged by Go8,” he said.
