Hilton partnership with UQ, offers industry insights into leadership roles16 November 2017

Global Hospitality Operations students receiving expert knowledge from industry professionals, Hilton Brisbane.

For the first time, The University of Queensland (UQ) Business School students undertook a six-week Global Hospitality Operations course with Hilton Brisbane, learning from a range of key division heads about hotel management.

Dr Jie Wang from UQ Business School said the experience offers students the invaluable opportunity to connect with industry specialists and learn about current business trends.

“Like many UQ Business School courses, this practice-based course applies the theoretical principles taught in class, in an authentic business setting,” said Jie.

“Several proactive students have even been offered internships and full-time positions based on the networking introductions made during the course.”

The six guest seminars included insights from the food and beverage, human resources, housekeeping, front office, sales and marketing, and revenue management departments.

In addition to the authentic industry scenarios, the course assessment is also a collaborative process with the assistance of the partner organisation. This process strengthens the realistic nature of the course and effectively prepares students for future employment.

Human Resource Manager at Hilton Brisbane, Adrienne Putelli, shares her thoughts on the key learnings which UQ Business School students take away from the course.

“It has provided students access to information and current practices within the industry, a broad understanding of the requirements and demands of different leadership roles, and what it takes to grow a successful career within a leading brand,” said Adrienne.

Chris Partridge, General Manager of Hilton Brisbane, was also present during final student presentations, providing valuable feedback for the students and equally for Hilton Brisbane to hear from the innovative minds of UQ Business School students.
