Bianca and Holly amongst winners in leadership awards

A student and an alumnus from UQ Business School who are both pioneers in the not-for-profit sector are celebrating success in the 2016 Australian Institute of Management (AIM) Leadership Excellence Awards.

Bianca Goebel won the Student Leader of the Year award for Queensland, while Holly Tattersall was named as Emerging Leader of the Year for the Brisbane region. The awards recognise Australia’s most outstanding managers and leaders.

Bianca, who is the CEO of Youth Without Borders and a passionate advocate of equal opportunities, is currently studying for an MBA. She hopes to work for a top-tier management consultancy while continuing to use her skills to contribute to the non-for-profit sector.

“I am extremely thankful for all the opportunities I have been able to take up during my leadership journey and in particular to the people who have invested in helping develop my potential over the years,” she said.

Holly, who graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Business Management, is the founder of Women in Digital which provides mentoring, training and career opportunities to members. In just two years she has grown it from a local Brisbane meet-up to an international organisation with branches in Silicon Valley, USA and Tel Aviv, Israel.

“Leadership isn’t something I’ve focused on developing throughout my career, my skills have developed naturally,” she explained. “Nevertheless I’m extremely proud to be recognised for my leadership capabilities.”

Both Holly and Bianca are members of the UQ young alumni board. They completed a gruelling application process, answering questions about AIM’s seven pillars of leadership, and undertook a panel interview before being selected as award winners.
