MBA Immersion Program

UQ Business School's MBA students and recent MBA alumni gain a new perspective on international business by taking part in the MBA Immersion Program. These optional Immersion Tours provide a unique business and cultural experience, and will give you a depth of insight that cannot be matched in the classroom

Developing Global Insight

The MBA Immersion Program is open to all MBA students (full-time and part-time) and recent MBA alumni. It features a variety of Immersion Tours to selected countries each year.

The MBA Immersion Program is an extra-curricular offering designed to broaden students' global business experience and translate classroom learning into practice. Students elect to participate in an Immersion Tour of their choice and pay an additional fee.

By participating in the program, you have the opportunity to:

  • Meet local representatives from industry, government and the not-for profit sector.
  • Learn about the country's economy and what is driving growth.
  • Understand the political system and its impact upon business.
  • Develop appreciation of culturally dissimilar business and social environments.
  • Develop your own networks within the country and career opportunities.

Destination India

Since the inaugural tour to India in 2013 students have taken part in industry panels at the High Commission in Delhi, met business leaders from a wide range of sectors, attended lectures at The Indian School of Business (ISB) in Hyderabad and The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). They have worked with the microfinance charity Opportunity International Australia meeting woman entrepreneurs who have started thriving businesses to achieve a life free from poverty, with dignity and purpose.

The MBA Director together with MBA Alumni and former Australian test cricketer, Michael Kasprowicz, lead the tour. Students consistently rate the tour 7 out of 7 in terms of the overall experience and have found their perspectives in relation to India and emerging economies transformed as a result of the Immersion.

“India will forever leave an imprint on our minds. The hope and optimism of its people, offered inspiring lessons for us all.” Mohit Rao, MBA Alumni.

“The India MBA Immersion Tour provided us with an insightful and unique overview to the business environment and culture in India. We were fortunate to be exposed to a very thoughtful and diverse set of experiences with ISB lectures, company tours and industry panel discussions. It was a truly exhilarating and energising experience.” Laetitia St Baker, MBA student.

“The immersion program is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and certainly provides a great context for my MBA studies. I now have an improved understanding of the international and local challenges for working with China thanks to the well-structured relevant lectures and company visits. The cohort group and staff made the trip a very enjoyable experience and helped motivate each other to learn and to share ideas.” Dylan Bull, MBA student.
