Work Integrated Learning

​UQ Business School provides a number of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities for tourism students through the Professional Experience (TOUR7040) course. WIL activities can help students bridge the gap between theory and practice, increase their understanding of tourism, hospitality and event industries as well as increase their employability. 

 

The Professional Experience course includes a compulsory industry focused/project based consultancy group placement. The group project component underpins the course objectives and is restricted to students in their final semester of study. The group placement gives students the opportunity to experience working in teams, similarly to real world jobs. You will be given a real industry issue to tackle as a group.

Past Projects and Achievements

Students worked on the creation of a series of tutorial videos highlighting marketing strategies for Australian tourism operators to attract Chinese free independent travellers. This project is now open to the public here:

MND and Me

The team of project students conducted a review of the Million Meters Swim for MND including a summary, event kit and recommendations for improvements.

Fringe festival

​The project team captured and compiled data during and after the 2015 BFF in order to complete a Festival Report used to assist with gaining further funding.

​Students conducted an investigation into the guest experience at M on Mary to answer the research question: Are our guest’s expectations being met?

Rydges

​Project students worked closley with the HR team at Rydges Hotel to create a more engaging induction for new staff at delivering a including PowerPoint, videos, customer service session, activities etc.

Toowong Rowing Club

​Looking into the impact on the community of a function venue in a residential area. Including Competitor Analysis/Comparison, Research BCC venue restrictions, developing a communication piece to locals and development of terms & conditions guidelines for potential clients/confirmed bookings.
