Friedrich Leisch, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna

Professor Leisch has been part of the R Core Development Team since its foundation in 1997 and served as secretary general of the R Foundation for Statistical Computing from 2002 until 2014. R has become the lingua franca of statistical computing over the last 15 years, the number of R extension packages has grown exponentially since he started the Comprehensive R Archive Network (CRAN) together with Kurt Hornik in the late 1990s.
