Universities are expected to be major contributors to innovations of benefit to society. In this talk, Professor David Gann will explain the thinking and process behind the creation of Imperial College’s $5 billion, White City Innovation Campus. Throughout the planning and construction of this campus, decisions have been influenced by academic research into innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystems. The Campus combines large firm, and government laboratories, scale-up space for growing companies, and variety of incubators, hackspaces and innovation spaces, which amongst other contributions attract engagement with the local community. Professor Gann will reflect on the opportunities and challenges of building innovation precincts and ecosystems in Brisbane.
