Peter Wanckel is Managing Director of John Deere Limited – Australia/New Zealand, a position he has held since May 2012. Peter is responsible for the Agriculture and Turf Division’s operations of Deere & Company (brand name John Deere) for the Australia and New Zealand region.

Deere & Company is an American corporation that manufactures agricultural, construction and forestry machinery, diesel engines, and turf equipment. John Deere also provides financial services and other related activities. The Company has operations in over 100 countries, employing approx. 60,000 people globally.

The Company which was founded almost 180 years ago, is listed as 86th in the Fortune Global 500 ranking, 38th overall in Forbes magazine’s Best Employers and is one of the world’s Top 50 Most Admired Companies according to research by Fortune Magazine.

Peter joined John Deere Limited as Chief Financial Officer in March 1999 with increasing responsibilities in the areas of accounting, treasury, business development, information technology and supply management. In 2009, Peter was appointed Managing Director of John Deere Water – Australia/New Zealand. This role was focused on consolidating global acquisitions of irrigation companies and integrating the Australia/New Zealand business into the John Deere – Australia/New Zealand organisation. In 2012 Peter began his current role of Managing Director John Deere Limited – Australia/New Zealand.

Prior to commencing with John Deere, Peter held a number of positions in accounting & finance with Santos Limited (oil and gas company) and in audit with Touche Ross & Co and Ernst & Whinney.

Peter, who was born in Johannesburg South Africa, is a graduate of University of Witwatersrand and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in South Africa. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
