UQ Business School’s 2016 Marketing Summit took place this month marking an exciting cross-over between academia and business.

This two-day event, held at UQ Business School Executive Venue, was dedicated to the sharing of research knowledge within the marketing and advertising fields that is related to a broad cross-section of industries, including cross-disciplinary work.

Summit participants heard from respected academic and industry professionals through keynote presentations, an interactive panel discussion, and an industry session.

Guest speakers included Professor Russell Belk from York University, Professor Valentyna Melnyk of Massey University, and Professor Angela Paladino from Melbourne University.

Speakers also participated in an interactive academic panel session that provided participants with the opportunity to receive valuable feedback on research related questions.

The industry session was led by Demetri Hughes, the Queensland President of the Australian Marketing Institute and featured Andy Fyffe, Managing Partner at Khemistry, who delivered a presentation on the benefits of Virtual Reality Technology.

UQ Business School Marketing Cluster Leader, Associate Professor Jay Weerawardena, said that the Summit provided an exciting platform for valuable dialogue between marketing experts ─ from both academia and industry.

“The summit provided a forum for the sharing of high quality research through the presentations made by distinguished scholars in marketing, and an opportunity for the participants to engage in a conversation on achieving good scholarly outcomes.

“It also delivered an encouraging environment for professional networking and discussion of a variety of academic issues,” he said.
