Your leadership journey starts the minute you enter your first class, Management Frameworks.

In this course, you’ll use our unique Leadership Capability Framework to assess your current level of skill across key leadership dimensions. You’ll also do the Intelligent Career Card Sort exercise – developed by MBA Director Dr Polly Parker – as well as using a number of other self-assessment tools to help you assess where you are now.

The course is also designed to provide a structured way to identify the things that really drive you professionally and personally – and you may be surprised where that thinking process takes you.

This is also the time you’ll have your first interview with a consultant from the School’s Careers Services Office. Equipped with your new learnings, you will be able to identify the kind of career outcomes that will inspire you in your studies – and in the personal development plan you will develop with the Careers Services Consultant.

Among the development opportunities you will have as part of the UQ Business School MBA Program are:

Leadership Enhancement Program

The Leadership Enhancement Program (LEP) is an innovative partner to the formal program. LEP Director, Professor Ken Wiltshire, develops the program each year. Because the program is designed to optimise the MBA experience, it is fluid enough to take advantage of opportunities as they arise.

Recent LEP events have included:

  • A visit to the Queensland Orchestra rehearsal room to learn about leading creative individuals and teams and attend a concert (included is the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to conduct the orchestra)
  • The opportunity to hear from the venue management team at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium followed by insights from the Queensland Reds rugby team and tickets to the game
  • field trip to the Noosa Biosphere to learn about the local government's leadership of the initiative that led to the establishment of the biosphere.

Alumni Lunch Lectures

Held monthly at UQ Business School’s Executive Education offices, the series provides interesting and thought-provoking presentations and discussion on a wide range of topics over a light lunch. Networking is a key feature of the series. Past speakers include Nobel Laureate Professor Joseph Stiglitz and former Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at DuPont Richard Goodmanson.
