Field of Current Research

Title of Research Area Brief Description
Critical cross-cultural management In particular, I propose that cross-cultural management should focus on culture-specific variables and meanings first before extensive cross-cultural comparisons.
Business relationship and networking in Australia and China Business relationship and networking is an area in which I develop specific critical cross-cultural management models which embraces both universal and culture-specific dimensions.
Strategic business negotiation Strategic business negotiation across cultures looks at how people from different cultures develop and negotiate their strategies for effective negotiation. For example, face or mianzi is an important factor for Australian-Chinese negotiations.
Discourse, communication, and Chinese organisational evolution Discourse, communication, and organisational evolution in China is an area in which I look at how business discourse is constructed through various stages of Chinese economic reforms. Discourse not only reflects organisational change towards market economy but also initiates and reinforces the direction of change in both organisational structure and interpersonal relations (guanxi).
Culture and entrepreneurship Culture and entrepreneurship represents my more recent research initiative but is still related to critical cross-cultural management. I look at how culture and its philosophical underpinnings impact the way Chinese entrepreneurs initiate and develop businesses such as collective entrepreneurship.
