Field of Current Research

Title of Research Area Brief Description
International Business My research agenda focuses on international business (IB). Within IB, I study issues at two levels, at the micro level of the firm and function (e.g., marketing), and at the macro level of the industry and country. At the micro level, my research program addresses four broad themes in international business. First is the complex, diverse and dynamic environmental pressures confronted by firms as they expand worldwide (e.g., the pressures of global integration and local responsiveness). Second area is firm strategy for international growth and expansion. The two sub-areas of my strategy research are foreign market entry modes, especially international joint ventures, and standardisation versus adaptation in global marketing. The third area is international organisation and decision-making and how it is influenced by firm strategy. The two sub-areas of my study in international organisation are centralisation versus decentralisation, and individual versus team-based decision-making. The fourth area is firm outcomes, including the intermediate outcomes of learning and innovation and how they influence the final, ultimate outcome/objective of market and financial performance.
