Field of Current Research

Title of Research Area Brief Description
Corporate Governance, Incentives in Organizations My work focuses on boards of directors, which are one of the primary mechanisms to help overcome the agency problem between managers and shareholders. Traditionally, the finance literature on corporate boards recognizes only one role of corporate boards, namely their monitoring role. In my work, I emphasize the idea that other roles of the board may affect their perceived effectiveness. My research focuses not only on external governance characteristics, such as board structure, but also on the internal dynamics of top management teams and, more generally, on decision-making in groups. In my empirical work, I emphasize human motivation and director behaviour rather than aggregate board characteristics.
