The Accounting Cluster has particular expertise in:

In the valuation area, the Cluster has expertise in the theoretical underpinnings and empirical applications of both cash flow based and accounting based valuation models. Current staff research projects include studies into: (1) the effect of auditor quality on the value of capitalised R&D; (2) the value relevance of employee stock options; (3) the value relevance of the components of goodwill; (4) a comparison of the Australian continuous disclosure regime with the U.S. alternative (quarterly reports) through an examination of the accuracy of analyst forecasts; and (5) the market assessment of information posted on internet discussion sites (IDS).
In the 'Financial Reporting and Corporate Governance' area, staff are involved in a variety of research topics. These include examination of the relationship between: (1) the objectives of institutional shareholders and the extent of earnings management; (2) board composition and shareholder wealth during takeovers; (3) choice of auditor and quality of disclosure; and (4) the market for auditing services and directors' remuneration.
The Accounting Cluster emphasises publishing in top ranked internationally refereed journals, as well as supporting key regional journals. Recent publications have appeared in The Accounting Review, The Journal of Accounting and Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting Horizons, Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, The Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting and Economics, The Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, and Accounting and Finance.
