Innovation Strategy and Leadership

Innovation enables firms to create value, improve efficiency, and maintain or increase competitiveness. Innovation and creativity are essential for both the construction of new and the revitalisation of existing industries.

While it is recognised that innovation is essential, it remains fraught with difficulties - it is expensive, complex, and risky, often involves organisational change, and commonly fails to meet its objectives. Innovation creates significant opportunities for organisations and industries to generate competitive advantages. Given these challenges and the rewards, this research program focuses on leading innovation.

The IS&L research program encompasses innovation strategy - including issues such as new product development, research commercialisation, operations, and production - and strategic leadership.

Leading edge research is also being undertaken in the areas of sustainability and strategy, where significant new projects have emerged examining the impact that climate change has on corporate strategy and adaptive response.

Researchers in the program are currently involved in a number of projects funded by grants from the Australian Research Council and other funding sources.

The Technology Innovation Management Centre is the legacy research centre associated with the program. The Centre focuses on improving technology and innovation management practices in areas such as biotechnology and sustainability.

Martina Linnenluecke, Sally Russell and Nardia Haigh are researching the impacts of climate change on business. Read more
