Thesis Topic

Factors advancing BPI outcomes in for-profit organisations

Thesis Description

My research intends to identify major factors that achieve higher levels of business process improvements (BPI) in for-profit organisations. BPI initiatives are conducted in all range of businesses to achieve more with less, and therefore make their operations more competitive. The Gartner 2006 report reinforced the importance of BPI as an essential tool to the development of organisations. The report specifically found that BPI is the number one business tool used or intended to be used by 1400 CIOs working in companies with an IT budget of over US$90 billion.

The factors affecting a higher level of BPI in this study instigate from two main branches, viz., key stakeholders interests alignment and BPI organisational capabilities. With key stakeholders interests' alignment I specifically focus on key stakeholders identification, key stakeholders relationships, and key stakeholders communication. With BPI organisational capabilities the focus is on the specific BPI resources that allow some organisations to achieve better levels of improvements than others. Some of the identified capabilities are continuous top management support, BPI staff capabilities, and BPI technical and technological capabilities. Research findings are expected to make a clear contribution to theory as well as a needed impact on practice across all industries.
