Technology management dynamo spreads network to Europe

Tuesday 18 September 2006

UQ Business School graduate, Suzy Baxter

UQ Business School graduate Suzy Baxter has accepted the challenge to join the business development team for PricewaterhouseCoopers' Eurofirm Advisory Leader in Luxembourg this month.

With responsibility for assisting the coordination of proposal and business development strategies across 20 countries and territories in Europe, and working with a core team to develop the Eurofirm's Healthcare Research Institute initiative, Suzy credits her success to the strength of her networks and technology management studies.

"The Master of Technology Management provided me with a theoretical framework that enabled me to appreciate and understand the concepts of innovation, sustainability, strategy and commercialization," Baxter said.

"From this platform, I have been able to 'talk the commercialization language' with my clients and industry contacts."

As a founding member of Women in Biotech, a member of numerous biotechnology committees and advisory councils, and founder of the UQ Business School MTIM Alumni Network, Ms Baxter has surrounded herself with dynamic like-minded people.

"I have and continue to place great importance on surrounding myself with highly motivated and energetic people who have influenced and expanded my career potential.

"These networks have enabled me to meet people from all sectors within the high tech industries, many of whom have acquired skills in Queensland and are now applying and building upon these skills whilst employed by multi-national organizations globally."

Starting out as an analytical chemist in the late 1990's after completing her undergraduate science honours degree at the University of Queensland in biochemistry and synthetic organic chemistry, Ms Baxter completed her Master of Technology Management in 2004 and redirected her interest to science and technology management.

"Innovation, sustainability, strategy and commercialization: seeing and helping a company to commercialize a fantastic, well-protected piece of technology into real dollars, while creating sustainable, high-growth businesses, building the economy and creating exiting careers for future Queenslanders, this is what motivates me to work with technology companies.

"This new role will involve me forging alliances and relationship with various companies, financial institutions, governments and their agencies and PricewaterhouseCoopers' offices across Europe and internationally."

Passionate about the biotechnology industry, Suzy Baxter will continue to forge alliances on the global stage.
