It was a family affair when University of Queensland Business School hosted the launch of the Master of Technology and Innovation Management (MTIM) alumni network recently.
The initiative of 2004 graduate Suzy Baxter, also at the launch were Suzy's father - who graduated in 1994 - and long-time Baxter-family friend Dr Ian Blackburne as guest speaker.
Blackburne is also a UQ graduate and is currently Chairman of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation and CSR Limited - and former Managing Director of Caltex Australia.
Suzy Baxter said she had enrolled in the degree program to better serve her clients.
She said, "After working in analytical and R & D labs, I had moved to a recruitment firm that serviced South East Queensland's science and technology community.
"The degree helped me better understand my clients regarding their HR and other strategic business issues - and led me to my current passion, which is helping biotech and other technology start-ups to set and achieve their business goals."
Baxter said she hoped the MTIM Alumni Network would grow to be a central point of contact for graduates wherever they were working.
Baxter's father Brian also attended the event and said he was very proud of his high-achieving daughter who is now working for a leading professional services firm.
Baxter senior said he had enrolled in the course to enrich his role as a contracts manager in a design and construct project management team working on major power station projects throughout Australasia.
"I also wanted to better understand the impact of technological advances in engineering and how those changes might impact on management."
