The University of Queensland

The University of Queensland has advanced two places to be named 41st in the world in the UK's Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings, released today.*

UQ has been named one of the top 50 universities in the world for the fifth year in a row in every year since the survey was established.

UQ is the only Queensland university, and one of only a handful of Australian universities, appearing in the top 50 list.

At last count, UNESCO recognised more than 9000 universities in the world, so the ranking places UQ among the top one percent of international universities.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Greenfield said it was a credit to the achievements of UQ staff, students and global networks of alumni and partners that UQ consistently ranked in the top band of the world's universities.

"As a genuinely international institution, UQ operates within an environment of thousands of universities, so being in the top 50 is significant," he said.

* Note: Top 200 rankings will be published in print today October 8, 2009 in Times Higher Education and online at 00:01 GMT on October 9 at www.topuniversities.com.

UQ Business School and its MBA program

In 2008, UQ Business School was ranked in the top five in Australia by the Economist Intelligence Unit's Which MBA? survey. Also in the top five were Melbourne Business School, Monash University, Macquarie Graduate School of Management, and Curtin University Graduate School of Business.

UQ Business School was the only Queensland business school included in the Which MBA? Asian and Australasian ranking in 2008.

Australian Rating

UQ Business School's MBA has consistently achieved the highest ranking (five stars) from the Graduate Management Association of Australia (GMAA) over the past five years. The GMAA ranking is published in the Good Universities Guide to MBA and Management Programs.

In 2009 the Good Universities Guide * itself awarded UQ Business School five stars for industry links and staff academic qualifications.

UQBS was the only Queensland business school included in the Which MBA? Asian and Australasian ranking in 2008.

* The Good Universities Guide to MBA and Management Programs 2010 is published in 2009.
