It is widely recognized that what makes a theory interesting and influential is not that it is true but that it challenges our assumptions about the subject matter in some significant way. However, established routes to research questions are searching for gaps in existing theories rather than challenging their assumptions. In this seminar we propose problematization as an alternative approach to research questions. In particular, we propose and develop problematization as a means to identify, articulate and challenge the assumptions underlying existing literature about a subject matter and, based on that, being able to formulate research questions that are likely to lead to the development of more influential theories.

In this seminar Alvesson and Sandberg propose and develop problematization as a means to identify, articulate and challenge the assumptions underlying existing literature about a subject matter and, based on that, being able to formulate research questions that are likely to lead to the development of more influential theories.
